We have had a wonderful holiday season! I hope you have too.
Jeremy's family was here for 5 days over Christmas and we enjoyed their company very much. I spent the week before they arrived cleaning and baking and getting ready for a bigger-than-I'm-used-to holiday dinner. I worked hard but I enjoyed it and even managed to keep the kitchen clean in between bursts of kitchen creativity.
The kids had a blast having grandma & grandpa Benson and Candy & Nick here. Always someone to tickle them, read to them or help get them ready for the day. They made a pretty good haul for Christmas too. A bike for Chloe, a camera for Zack, more GeoTrax for Aiden and the list goes on. Jeremy got a new toy (tool) for his garage and I got a laptop (new to me!) from my computer wiz husband who refurbed it for me.
And now you know why I've recommitted myself to the blog. Not ready to call it a resolution... but maybe I'll keep it up all year long!
I will post again soon but I'd better help the kids get ready for bed tonight!

I'd rather cook for 2
I can't tell you the number of times the kids and I have had pizza for dinner since Jeremy has been working in Vegas. No, really I can't... I'd be sooo embarrassed! Turns out I cook a lot more to please my husband than I realized. I try to mix things up so he doesn't get bored with my menus. I'm not very good at it. I mean, I still only have like a weeks worth of recipes that I use often. But the variety has been a lot more limited than that lately. I cater to my kids (I know, HORRIBLE idea) at almost every meal. And they like pizza. They also like "chicken" nuggets. They aren't picky with the chicken. McDonald's, BK, frozen shapes... they like it all. As long as its smothered in ranch dressing, of course. Chloe licks it right off the plate. True story. We do lots of mac n cheese. Not the delish, from-scratch kind. Just the blue box, baby! Other than the pizza, none of it is anything I like. I'd rather cook for 2 people who are willing to try something new than for 3 little ones who like 4 things!
So today I forced myself to get away from my sewing machine a little earlier than normal and actually put a bit more effort into dinner tonight. And yes, I'm prepared for the "I don't like it" comments. I'm also prepared to enjoy the meal! It's a simple one. Just some shredded chicken, salsa & cream cheese (hey, I didn't say it was super healthy, just yummy!) all wrapped up in crescent rolls. It's one of Jeremy's favorites and one that I don't even put on the weekly rotation usually.
I promise I'll make it for him when he's home to stay again. That and some homemade mac & cheese.
I'm not quite sure what the point of this post was supposed to be, other than a big pat on the back for myself. Since I haven't cooked "real" dinner in like 2 months, I guess I deserve a 'way to go' tonight.
Oh, and the kids ate it better than I had expected!

Home is Where Your Husband Is
Jeremy is the BEST! He has been working in Vegas for the last {almost} 12 weeks. That's 81 days. 81 days without Daddy home. 81 days not getting to see his kids. 81 days and counting. NO FUN! But he's doing it. He's providing for our family and we love him for it. We miss him terribly. I miss him terribly. I missed him at every swimming lesson the kids had this summer. I missed him at Aiden's preschool "graduation". I missed him when houses in the neighborhood were being broken into at night when families were HOME (I slept by my gun for a week!). I miss him every morning when I roll over and realize for the 81st time that the pile of clothes on my bed that I still haven't folded is still not him. I missed him SOOO much when I took Aiden to his first day of preschool. So many dad's were there for that little milestone day. And although Aiden didn't even seem to care that I was there, let alone Dad, I wished so badly he was with us. I miss him every time I go to the grocery store with all 3 kids. And when we say prayers at night. He's usually on the phone for that, but its so not the same!
But we've learned some things thru this crisis! We've learned that we are tough cookies. We can do hard things. Things I never thought we could. We've learned that we love each other more than we sometimes realized. We've re-learned that a family consists of TWO parents who lovingly guide their children to choose the right. Single parenthood is not for the weak. Nor is being away from your family. I've gained insights into my kids because of the extra time I have been spending with them.
We've learned {again} that blessings come in unexpected packages. We are trying oh so hard to be grateful for those blessings. We could easily whine and complain about how hard things are and how we wish soooo many things were different. I hope that I don't seem like a walking pity party. We are so blessed to have a little income. We are blessed that Jeremy doesn't have to pay for living arrangements, but that he can stay with his parents. We are blessed with great home and visiting teachers who are aware of us. And most of all we are blessed that he will be home again eventually.
Because HOME is most certainly where your HUSBAND is!

Waiting for Chloe... 2 years ago!
Chloe turned 2 a couple of weeks ago so I thought it was time to clean up my blog and remove the pregnancy update from my sidebar :) Maybe there will be a new one sometime in the next year. We'll see! But I wanted to keep this on the blog for future reference & sentimental reminiscing.
37 weeks - I'm scheduled for July 23rd! I don't sleep much anymore. Ultrasounds say she'll weigh around 7 pounds!
33 weeks - Insurance is stupid! I'm so glad we have it, but $40 a visit is starting to make me mad! Baby is good though. We have less than 6 weeks before we get to meet her! Yea!
28 weeks - Feeling good most of the time. Getting more tired as I get into the 3rd trimester. Glad she is doing well. No changes to the CCAM. She weighs about 2.5 lbs now.
21 weeks - got some real answers about the CCAM. Glad to have a doctor willing to explain things. Having lots of ultrasounds and she has a cute profile.
Almost 19 weeks - FINALLY starting to feel baby moving in there! Found out its a girl! Mommy & Aiden are VERY excited. Daddy and Zack are good either way.
